THE CONCERN
You Read That B12 Fixes Tiredness. It Depends Entirely on Why You Are Tired.
B12 has become shorthand for energy. It is the booster people ask for by name when they are dragging through the afternoon, sleeping badly, or coming back from a stretch of illness, and it is the one most often added without anybody checking whether it was needed.
The biology is real. B12 is genuinely essential for red blood cell formation, for nerve function, and for turning food into usable energy. A true deficiency causes fatigue that no amount of sleep resolves, and it is more common than people expect in those who eat little animal protein, those on long term metformin or acid reducing medication, and those who have had gut surgery.
What does not follow is that more B12 creates energy in someone who is not short of it. If your level is adequate, the extra is excreted, and the tiredness has another cause worth finding.
No urgency here.
If B12 is not what your fatigue is about, we would rather tell you that than sell you a bag.

Recently went for IV therapy after a bout of sickness. The clinic space is beautiful and Parveen was incredibly helpful. The treatment worked great too, I was feeling brand new the next day!
THE TREATMENT
What Vitamin B12 Does, and When It Is Worth Adding
Vitamin B12, or cobalamin, is a water soluble vitamin your body cannot make. It is required to build red blood cells, to maintain the myelin sheath around your nerves, and to run the energy pathways inside your cells. Your body stores it in the liver, which is why a shortfall develops slowly and is often missed.
Delivered into a vein it bypasses the gut entirely. That matters more for B12 than for most nutrients, because gut absorption is exactly where B12 most often fails. It relies on intrinsic factor, a protein made in the stomach, and anything that interferes with that step limits how much of an oral supplement you ever absorb.
Whether B12 belongs in your bag is a question about your history, your diet, your medications and your symptoms, not about what is popular. It is added when your assessment supports it and left out when it does not.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE
What to Expect, and Who It Is For
What to Expect
- Consultation and assessment. A review of your history, diet, medications and symptoms, and an honest answer on whether B12 is likely to be doing anything for you.
- A written plan. The formulation, including whether B12 is part of it, confirmed in writing before your line goes in.
- The infusion. 30 to 60 minutes seated in our dedicated IV lounge, monitored throughout by your registered nurse.
- Right after. Most patients return to their day immediately. Mild bruising at the site can occur and settles within days.
- Ongoing plan. Reviewed at each visit against how you actually feel, not booked as a standing order.
Who It Is For, Honestly
B12 is worth discussing if you follow a plant based diet, take long term metformin or acid reducing medication, have had gut surgery, or have fatigue that has not been explained by anything else.
- If you have never had your B12 level measured, that blood test belongs with your family doctor first. It is inexpensive, it is covered, and it answers the question properly.
- B12 supplementation can mask the blood picture of a folate deficiency, which is one reason we ask what else you take.
- We do not treat during pregnancy without medical sign off.
If your assessment does not support adding it, we will say so, and we will tell you what would serve you better.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Vitamin B12 Injection Questions, Answered
Straight answers, the same ones you would get in the treatment room.
- What does vitamin B12 actually do?
- B12 is required to build red blood cells, to maintain the protective sheath around your nerves, and to run the pathways that turn food into usable energy. A genuine shortfall shows up as fatigue, and in longer standing cases as pins and needles or numbness, because the nerve effects follow the blood ones.
- Why have B12 in an IV rather than as a tablet?
- Because absorption is the usual problem. Oral B12 depends on intrinsic factor, a protein made in the stomach, and on a healthy gut lining. Anything that interferes with either limits how much of a tablet you take up. An infusion bypasses that step, which is why it is used when absorption is the suspected issue rather than intake.
- Can I have B12 on its own, without a full infusion?
- B12 is offered here as a booster within an IV infusion. If a standalone injection is what you are after, ask at your consultation and we will tell you honestly what is available and whether it suits your situation.
- How do I know if I am low in B12?
- A blood test, and it is worth having your family doctor order it, since it is covered and it gives you a real number rather than a guess. We will ask whether you have had one, and if you have not, we will often suggest you get it before deciding anything.
- Is extra B12 harmful if I am not deficient?
- B12 is water soluble and the excess is largely excreted, so it is not dangerous in the way a fat soluble vitamin can be. That is not an argument for adding it anyway. If you are not short of it, it is unlikely to change how you feel, and we would rather find the real reason.
- Who administers the infusion, and how long does it take?
- Your formulation is planned by our clinical team from your assessment, then administered by a registered nurse, under the clinical oversight of nurse practitioner Parveen Sangha, in our dedicated IV lounge. Most infusions run 30 to 60 minutes, seated and monitored throughout.
