PROMETHEAN CLINIC, VANCOUVER

She Had Been Sick for Two Months Before Her First Drip

A composite clinical scenario, not one person, and not a testimonial.

THE SITUATION

Not Ill Any More, Not Better Either

One thing arrives after another through the winter, and by February the infection has cleared but nothing else has. Appetite has been poor for weeks. Sleep has been broken for longer. The stairs feel like more than they used to. This is somebody who is not unwell in any way a thermometer would show, and who is nowhere near themselves.

That is usually the state people are in when they book a recovery drip, and it is a reasonable thing to want help with. It is also the exact state where the most useful thing a clinic can do is ask a few questions before selling anything at all.

No urgency here.

Feeling flattened for weeks after an illness deserves an explanation before it gets a treatment.

Recently went for IV therapy after a bout of sickness. The clinic space is beautiful and Parveen was incredibly helpful. The treatment worked great too, I was feeling brand new the next day!

WHAT WE DID

The Questions That Come Before the Drip

The first is whether this belongs here. Fatigue that persists for weeks after an infection has a real list of causes worth excluding, including low iron, anaemia, thyroid problems, glandular fever and post viral syndromes. Every one of them needs a blood test and a doctor, and not one of them is fixed by an infusion. If that work has not been done, saying so is the more useful thing we can offer.

If it has been done and nothing turned up, what a drip can honestly offer is narrower than the marketing around it suggests. Fluid, if you have been eating and drinking badly for weeks. Nutrients you are genuinely short of. What it will not do is treat an infection, shorten a recovery, or compensate for two months of broken sleep.

The assessment matters as much here as anywhere, because the same volume of fluid that is unremarkable for most people is a genuine load with a significant heart or kidney condition. Feeling run down does not change that calculation.

HOW WE PRACTICE

The Promethean Standard, Applied

The same four disciplines govern every treatment we offer, including this one. This is what medically led means in practice.

  1. 01

    Assess

A medical assessment of your health history, your anatomy, and your goals, and an honest answer on whether this treatment is right for you at all.

You leave knowing what is realistic for you.

  2. 02

    Plan

A written plan for your treatment: dosing or settings, timing, cost, and what it will and will not change. Nothing added that does not serve the outcome.

You know exactly what to expect, and why.

  3. 03

    Treat

Conservative technique from our nurse practitioner led, physician supported medical team, in our purpose built clinic at 1111 West Georgia Street.

You look like yourself, rested and well.

  4. 04

    Care

Follow up to review your result, plus wellness and longevity support under one roof, over years rather than appointments.

A clinic that knows your whole picture.

BEFORE YOU DECIDE

What to Expect, and Who It Is For

What the Appointment Looks Like

  1. Tell us the whole timeline. When it started, what you were diagnosed with if anything, and what has already been tested.
  2. An honest answer about seeing your doctor first. Sometimes that is the entire conversation.
  3. Medical assessment. History, medications, and your heart and kidney history in particular.
  4. Fluid and nutrients as the foundation. Nothing added because it appeared on a list.
  5. About an hour, reclined. Quiet, and worth treating as its own appointment.
  6. No promises about tomorrow morning. You will be told what is reasonable to expect.

Who This Applies To, and Who It Does Not

This suits someone who has been properly checked, has nothing that needs treating, and wants support while they get their strength back.

  • It is not appropriate with significant heart or kidney conditions, where the extra fluid is a load rather than a help.
  • Come once you are no longer infectious. You would otherwise be sitting in an open lounge with other people for an hour.
  • If you have not seen a doctor about fatigue lasting weeks, do that first. We will still be here afterwards.
  • If you are getting worse rather than slowly better, that is not a drip. That is an appointment with a doctor.

If the honest answer is that you need a blood test rather than an infusion, that is what you will be told.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions People Ask in This Situation

Straight answers, the same ones you would get in the treatment room.

Will a drip fix post viral fatigue?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise is guessing. Post viral fatigue is poorly understood and there is no infusion that resolves it. What a drip can do is correct dehydration and top up nutrients you are genuinely low in, which may make you more comfortable. That is a smaller claim than the one usually made, and it is the accurate one.

Should I see my doctor first?
If the fatigue has lasted more than a few weeks, yes, and you will hear the same thing in the room. Iron studies, thyroid function and a full blood count are simple tests, the conditions they find are common and genuinely treatable, and no drip is a substitute for finding one of them. Come here after that, not instead of it.

Can I come in while I still have symptoms?
Not while you are still infectious. Once you are past that and simply run down, it is a reasonable time to come. If you are unsure which side of that line you are on, call and describe it rather than turning up.

What is actually in a recovery drip?
Fluid first, because that is the component that reliably makes a difference when someone has been eating and drinking badly for weeks. Beyond that it is built from your assessment rather than from a named package, and you will be told what each thing is for and how strong the evidence behind it actually is.

How many will I need?
Possibly one. Possibly none. This is not a course, and if you feel no different afterwards then the honest conclusion is that fluid and nutrients were not what was holding you back. We would much rather you reached that conclusion after one than after six.

This is a composite. It describes a pattern we see often, assembled from more than one person so that no individual can be identified. No names, no images, and no personal details are used.
